“Profoundly moving”
Carol Japha's new book, Mapping Eden, is the story of a child trying to make sense of her mother's illness and death. The power of this beautifully written book is that it is told from the child's point of view--her mother has disappeared and no one is talking about it. The silence and uncertainty force her to express her grief and rage towards her dolls. As a reader, I identify with the child in her confusion and pain, and at the same time as an adult, I understand what she does not. This double layer of empathy and emotion is profoundly moving.
